WHAT WE DO AND WHY

Turning Interest into Action

At Botswana School Project, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to build a strong educational foundation and develop a lifelong love of learning. Since 2012, we have worked alongside teachers, students, and communities in Botswana to strengthen primary education and create meaningful opportunities for children to learn, grow, and thrive.

Our work is centered around three key areas: strengthening foundational literacy, providing essential classroom materials, and promoting cultural exchanges. We believe that reading and writing are the foundation for all learning and that giving children the skills and resources they need early in their education can have a lasting impact on their future.

We provide books, classroom supplies, furniture, teacher resources, and other essential materials that help create supportive learning environments. We also seek to enrich education beyond the classroom by encouraging learning across science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics, while recognizing the importance of physical activity, creativity, and supporting the diverse needs of every child.

Through cultural exchange, we create opportunities for students, educators, and communities to learn from one another and develop a greater understanding of the world around them. We believe these connections foster global citizenship, broaden perspectives, and demonstrate that learning can extend far beyond the classroom.

Our Board is composed of individuals with expertise in a variety of fields who help guide our decisions and shape the direction of our organization. We also seek guidance and collaboration from educators and other experts whose knowledge and experience help us continually evaluate our work and ensure that our efforts are meaningful, responsible, and effective.

Ultimately, we measure our success not simply by what we provide, but by the opportunities those resources and connections create for children and teachers. Our goal is to help build stronger educational foundations today while inspiring lifelong learning and global understanding for generations to come.

WAYS WE HELP

The Focus of Our Efforts

IMG-2663.jpg

ENHANCE FOUNDATIONAL LITERACY

Anything we purchase must be related to what is taught

Before we purchase anything, we ask teachers what they need for their school and students. They prioritize their list and then we purchase items according to our budget. We never purchase anything not requested or related to their program. That has always been a fundamental decision of our organization.

PROVIDE ESSENTIAL CLASSROOM MATERIALS

We supply tools that students and teachers need to succeed

We donated 200 chairs so that each child has their own seat, donated thousands of books, cleared playground from snake infested areas so students have a place to play outside, donated classroom supplies to facilitate learning success, teacher resources so teachers have the materials to teach and be successful.

FOSTER GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP

We connect students across cultures and support local communities

We create opportunities for students in Botswana and around the world to learn from one another through cultural Zoom exchanges, conversations about animals and the environment, and other cross-cultural experiences. We also support local communities by purchasing jewelry and baskets made by San women, helping provide income that can be used to purchase school uniforms, food, and other essentials for their children.
